Public transportation means such as air-crafts and trains are not suited for animals. If you are planning to go out of the country with your pets, it is important to remember that it requires a lot of preparation. There are documents you need to seek and you also need to ensure that your pets are healthy enough to travel abroad.
Air India, Jet Airways, SpiceJet, and Vistara allow all passengers to bring pets on board but there are strict rules and regulations implemented. Meanwhile, AirCosta and IndiGo only allow pets on board for disabled individuals who depend on them.
Pets that are eight to 12 weeks old and pregnant are not allowed to travel on carriers. Aggressive and short-muzzled dogs are not also allowed on board due to safety reasons. Most of the time, only guide dogs are really permitted on board. Meanwhile, some pets are considered part of the excess package. Having them on cargo is relatively cheaper but chances are you would not be flying the same flight and arriving at the airport at the same time.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) provides that all pets on board or on cargo must be put in an approved crate. It must be escape-proof, leak-proof, non-chewable, well-ventilated and spacious enough. It is highly recommended that you buy the crate at least a week before leaving so that your pet can get acquainted with it. Don’t forget to put a label on the crate. It must clearly have your name, your pet’s name, address, flight number, and contact number.
Make sure that you acquire all the necessary documents, accomplish all airline requirements and prepare your pets for the trip thoroughly. It would not be hard enough to take it from there and you can enjoy a hassle-free journey with your pets.
